FileCloud Desktop for Windows (beta) Release Notes

Users running the FCD Windows application on Windows 11 version 24H2 may experience intermittent crashes.
This is a known issue specific to this OS version and is currently under investigation.

Updates made to FileCloud Desktop for Windows include the fixes listed below.

23.241.40 beta

  • When a user who logged in with SSO was logged out due to session timeout, the user was not prompted to log in again. Now the user is prompted to log in again with SSO.

  • An issue causing system names to be appended to the end of filenames downloaded from Chrome and Edge to Team Folders has been fixed.

  • A folder did not get moved when a user tried to move it into a newly created folder. This has been fixed.

  • When mass deployment settings specified that the default login should be SSO, FileCloud Desktop continued to default to password login. This has been fixed.

  • The Activity tab showed an exclamation point next to a file upload that ended in a conflict, but did not display a conflict message. This has been fixed so that a conflict error message as well as an exclamation point icon is shown.

  • FileCloud Desktop was not uploading changes into newly created folders. This has been fixed.

  • When files and folders were marked offline (Always keep on this device) file operations such as edit, rename and delete could not be performed. This has been fixed.

  • If users did not have permission to delete a file or folder when they tried to delete it, the file or folder appeared to be deleted, but then reappeared. This has been fixed so that now an error message is returned If a user without permission attempts to delete a file or folder.

  • The error message "The file cannot be processed as it was locked by" did not display the locked by user's name. This has been fixed.

  • Now, temporary files beginning with a ~ (tilde) are not uploaded to the server for greater efficiency.

  • Note: Opened files are not automatically locked in this version. Manual locking is required to lock a file before opening it for edit.

  • An issue preventing files deleted on the server from syncing properly has been fixed.

  • Improved accuracy of activity log.

  • Sync error handling has been improved to reduce sync conflicts.

  • Fixed an issue preventing files from being restored after failed deletion attempts.

  • Files updated on the server were not syncing properly. This has been fixed.

  • Improved handling of renamed files and folders.

  • If renamed or dehydrated files were deleted on the server, they were not removed locally. This has been fixed.

  • Error handling has been enhanced to make the startup experience more reliable.

  • The option to reset the password did not always appear. This has been fixed.

  • More data from the server is now refreshed at startup.

  • Error messages now indicate when login with a device code is not possible.

  • The user interface and system process for authentication were improved.

  • Improved handling of network connectivity changes.

  • Enhanced the system to display whether downloaded items are files or folders.

  • Login now shows a popup for invalid passwords and handles session expiration issues more effectively.

  • File synchronization process now marks files as in sync when no conflicts are detected.

  • Fixed issues with file and folder locking.

  • In some cases, files were not uploaded if many files were added at once. This has been fixed.

  • Improved file downloading issues.

  • Added support for disabling login type selection in the user interface.

  • Clarified wording on the Offline Folders tab.

  • Added icons and a notification to indicate WebSocket disconnection.

  • Added improvements to prevent files queued for deletion from being re-added.

  • Fixed overlapping that occurred when hovering over downloads in progress on the activity tab.

  • Fixed an issue that caused the dashboard to crash and display a blank window in the UI.

23.241.29 beta

  • The error message returned when a user enters an incorrect device authentication code now specifies the problem.

  • The message displayed when a remote message was received from the server had an error in the title. This has been fixed.

  • Trying to start FileCloud Desktop when it was already running caused an empty window to open. This has been fixed.

  • When FileCloud Desktop was not running, placeholders could be deleted. This is now prevented.

  • New shares and new Team Folders did not appear in File Explorer without re-login. This has been fixed.

  • When a shared folder is removed, FileCloud Desktop now ensures that local changes are maintained.

  • On login, when a license was expired, the wrong error message appeared. This has been fixed.

  • When insufficient quota for uploading a file occurred, an "Unknown error" message was returned. Now an "Insufficient quota" message is returned.

  • Folders renamed or moved on Azure or S3 network shares now automatically have content removed and replaced with a placeholder.

  • Users are now able to edit files locked by themselves.

  • The process for downloading files from network shares has been improved to prevent file corruption.

  • An issue causing crashes when files were renamed or created with disallowed extensions has been fixed.

  • When an Office file uploaded to the server from FileCloud Desktop was renamed and then locked on FileCloud Desktop, the lock with the new name was sent to the server before the rename action was sent, causing an error. This has been fixed by sending the lock action with the file's original name.

23.241.26 beta

  • When users selected "Always keep on this device" for a folder with a long path, the files in the folder were shown separately in the offline tab. This has been fixed.

  • An issue causing Office files that were open for edit to unlock before they were closed has been fixed.

  • Hidden and temporary files are now excluded from activity logs.

  • An issue causing files with empty modified times to sync incorrectly has been fixed.

  • The uninstall option on the msi installer has been fixed.

  • A more specific error message now appears to users if sideloading is not enabled in Windows Server 2019.

  • An issue preventing FileCloud Desktop from unmounting after it was uninstalled on Windows has been fixed.

  • File deletion operations failed during file rename actions. This has been fixed.

  • Users were logged out of FileCloud Desktop after some file operations failed. This has been fixed.

  • When the storage path was removed from the FileCloud admin portal, the FileCloud Desktop Activity tab showed "Unknown error." This has been fixed.

  • When all files from the temp folder were added to the logs zip file, unexpected behavior occurred. This has been fixed by only including recent logs in the zip file.

  • An issue preventing the parent folder from being refreshed if file deletion failed has been fixed.

  • FileCloud Desktop now always checks for file locks to prevent file conflicts.

  • Upload error handling and error messages have been improved.

  • When an invalid 2FA code was entered, a generic error message was shown. Now an error message specifying that an invalid 2FA code was entered is shown.

  • When the system restarted, SSO users had to log in again. Now they remain logged in.

  • Uploading files with disallowed extensions is prevented.

  • File renaming was improved by avoiding unnecessary folder locking and adding better error handling for expired tokens.

  • Improved uploading of files with spaces in their names.

  • If a file is locked on the FileCloud Server and a user edits it in FileCloud Desktop, the Activity tab now notifies the user that the file cannot be processed because it was locked.

  • FileCloud Desktop installation now ignores errors that occur when removing temporary files.

  • If a domain is removed during upload, retry attempts to the domain are stopped immediately.

  • When users are working offline, they are now prevented from performing duplicate uploads.

  • When files were saved but not closed, they were unlocked. This has been fixed.

  • To prevent duplicate file listings, directories are now marked as accessed or listed.

  • An issue causing FileCloud Desktop to crash has been fixed.

  • The startup speed of the app has been improved.

23.241.23 beta

  • A new option can be added to mass deployment settings to disable the "Always keep on this device" option in Windows Explorer.

  • A problem causing file uploads to fail with FileCloud versions 23.241.4 and higher has been fixed.

  • File write permissions have been adjusted to improve file explorer performance.

  • Notifications of deletion errors due to permission issues have been improved.

  • Files were being duplicated when the client was offline. This has been fixed.

  • A confirmation pop-up appeared when no changes had been made. This has been fixed.

  • A new setting has been added to detect and resolve broken websocket connections.

23.241.21 beta

Note: FileCloud Desktop for Windows beta cannot be used with the currently released version of FileCloud, 23.241.4. However, it can be used with FileCloud version 23.241.3 and will be available again with version 23.241.6.

  • Improvements were made to the feature for locking opened files.

  • Issues with the share dialog box have been fixed.

  • When a file was renamed during sync, its last modified time was changed. This has been fixed.

  • Mass deployment configuration now works correctly.

  • Shutdown of the client was not working correctly. This has been fixed.

  • Login with an email address now works correctly.

  • When "Free up space" was chosen for a file or folder, it appeared to sync indefinitely. This has been fixed.

  • File rename errors no longer result in crashes.

  • Error handing and error messages for login errors, system status checks, folder creation, device authentication, and invalid 2FA codes have been improved.

  • Username now appears in the user drop-down list in the dashboard.

  • A notification window now appears when logout is in progress.

  • SSO login resulted in an application crash. This has been fixed.

  • When the application displayed an error icon for failed uploads, it sometimes hung up. This has been fixed.

  • Permissions for view-only files and folders have been fixed.

  • Login did not work correctly when Team Folders were not set up. This has been fixed.

  • When a file was deleted, and a new file with the same name was uploaded to take its place, the new file was given the last modified time of the deleted file instead of its own last modified time. This has been fixed.

  • It is now possible to cancel a download in progress from the Live tab of the dashboard.

  • Users can now right-click on a file to share it.

  • A problem causing files uploaded from Obsidian to have the machine name appended to the filename has been fixed.

  • Several bug fixes and optimizations were implemented for improved overall performance and stability.

23.241.5 beta

  • The Help button in the dashboard was linking users to the FileCloud Desktop for macOS documentation. It now links users to the FileCloud Desktop for Windows documentation.

  • In Windows explorer, when a file was downloaded and its properties were viewed, switching tabs on the properties panel sometimes caused a blue screen error. This has been fixed.

  • Server-side operations were not reflected immediately in the FileCloud Desktop for Windows dashboard. This has been fixed.
